Everything you need to know from head to toe:

Dress Rehearsal

Dress Rehearsal

  • Dress Rehearsal will take place at Elite Dance Center, 30 Commercial Street, Foxboro

  • Dress Rehearsal is May 27th, May 28th and May 29th at Elite Dance Center. Please see the Dress Rehearsal schedule sheet for specific rehearsal times.

  • You can find your dancer’s detailed class info (teacher name, class name, show, etc) in your parent portal. Your Dress Rehearsal day and time are listed separately on the Dress Rehearsal handout.

  • Please arrive with hair and makeup complete and fully dressed in your first costume. (See Hair and Makeup below)

  • If you have multiple dances, plan to rehearse in the order they are scheduled on the Dress Rehearsal Handout. However, please understand that the schedule is flexible to ensure we are running as quickly and efficiently as possible. The order may not be the same for the recital with the exception of the Combo Classes.

  • We run ON TIME, sometimes even a few minutes early. Please arrive 15 MINUTES PRIOR TO YOUR REHEARSAL TIME in your first costume with stage hair and make up done. We are unable to wait for missing and/or late students, and cannot alter the order in which numbers are rehearsed.

  • Dress rehearsal is MANDATORY & very important for your child so they know what to expect for recital day.  Including wearing the costume, entrances, exits, and most importantly a live audience.

  • Cameras and Video cameras are encouraged for DRESS REHEARSAL ONLY.

  • No extra visitors are allowed on this day. Only ONE parent/guardian per dancer .

Recital Photos

  • Donner photographic will be set up in the studio at Dress Rehearsal.

Each dancer will have a group portrait taken in every costume.

Dancers will also take individual photos in each costume.

  • Only dancers and Elite Staff are allowed into the photography Studio while pictures are in session.

  • Pictures will be on sale Friday, June 6th 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Elite Dance Center. You will be able to view all of the pictures taken. There is no obligation to purchase pictures.

Regular Class Schedule during Dress Rehearsal Week

  • There will be no regular classes during the week of May 26th through May 31st. In lieu of regular classes, we will be having Dress Rehearsal. Please see adjusted days and times.

  • The Dress Rehearsal is considered a substitute class. If you are in a non-performing class, you may request a makeup class if desired.

  • The last day of classes for the annual year is June 13th.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Dress Rehearsal

images_edited.png

1. What do I wear?-  All Dress Rehearsals are full hair, makeup and costume. This is the opportunity to get a practice round in for you and your dancer.

2. Where do I go?  - Dress Rehearsals are being held at Elite Dance Center. You will park in the lot and enter through the front door. Inside there will be signs to direct you to your changing room. Please look for your class day and time on the assigned dressing areas.

3. What time should I arrive?-  Every class has been assigned a window of time (see the Dress rehearsal Schedule handout).  You should arrive 15 minutes earlier than the time listed on the spreadsheet.  Dancers will perform their dance and then have the class photo taken. Individual dancer photos may also be taken at this time. Dancers will be released as soon as their dance is complete and their portraits have been taken. Please keep in mind that if children are late to rehearsal, it will affect the schedule for the rest of the day. In order to stay on schedule, classes may not wait for a late dancer arrival.

4. Why are Dress Rehearsals mandatory?  This policy protects your child and classmates from a negative performance experience. Dress Rehearsals allow your dancer to get the on stage performance but in their home studio building confidence for a successful show!

5. What should I bring? If your child has multiple costumes, pack a dance bag with their additional costumes, accessories, tights and shoes. Otherwise, dancers should arrive ready to dance and won’t need additional items.

6. Can parents watch Dress Rehearsal? Yes! We encourage ONE parent to sit in the audience. Because you will not be allowed to photograph or video during recitals, this is a great time to take pictures and video.

7. Can I drop off my child? - NO. You will be responsible for your children's costume and changing them in between photos. Ages 12+ excluded.

Everything you need to know from head to toe:

Costumes and Hair/Makeup

Costumes

  • Costumes will be distributed during class May 3rd through May 9th to Adults only. Your account must be in good standing, including May tuition, to receive your costume.

  • Label everything, including costumes, tights, shoes, and accessories!

  • Please do not let your child play dress up with costume as it cannot be returned or replaced prior to the recital.

  • Once received, please take your dancer’s costume out of the bag and hang it somewhere safe. Tutu’s and ‘fluffy’ dance skirts should be hung upside down. This allows gravity to do the work, and once your dancer puts it on – the tutu will not sag. If the costume is wrinkled – do not iron! Simply hang it in your bathroom during a hot shower and let it get steam OR use a steamer for the perfect touch.

  • Please write student’s name in his or her costume(s), shoes, and accessories. We recommend you store your costumes in garment bags for each costume. For your convenience, garment bags are available in the Studio for $13.

  • Please do not wear underwear under tights. Remove all nail polish. No Jewelry may be wore except for small post earrings. Shoes should be clean.

  • Final Bows – every Elite Dance dancer will wear their Recital T-Shirt for the Finale. Please make sure this is labeled and included with their costumes upon Recital check in.

  • Please make any alterations prior to Picture Day.

Hair and Make-up

  • Make-up is an important part of costuming for any children's dance recital. Because of the bright lights on stage, without make-up you will not see any features on your child’s beautiful face. Make-up for the stage is different from make-up for regular use.

  • Please wear Hair and Makeup as you would for a Recital at Dress Rehearsal. We recommend mascara, neutral eyeshadow, bright lipstick, eyeliner and blush. This is great practice for both parent and dancer.

  • Hair must be pulled back from face in a LOW bun with middle part and securely fastened with gel. Neutral colored hair ties should be used. Boys should be neatly groomed.

  • Hats & Headpieces are to be secured with several bobby pins. Be sure to "X them on each side of the head to hold. Accessories should be pinned and secured with a medium size pin.

  • Dancers should wear their NEW pair of tights to Dress Rehearsal/Picture Day and the Recital. If your dancer wears both white/pink and suntan tights put the tan tights first and the pink/white tights over them.

  • The performance is over after the Finale and Awards. Audience members should stay for the entire performance and should not leave early. Dancers will not be dismissed early from the performance. Please stay in your seat until the performance is over and the house lights are raised. If you must exit the auditorium during the performance, please exit in between dance routines. Then, exit with the rest of the audience. This policy is in place to show respect and appreciation to all of our performers as well as audience members around you.

  • Dancers will be dismissed from the side door to a parent/guardian.

  • Dancers in multiple shows may leave in between but must check in 30 minutes before the next show.

Dance Recital Etiquette

  • Seating: Every member of the audience should have a ticket.  Please prepare to show your ticket electronically at the door.

  • Silence or Turn Off Your Devices: Please turn off cell phones, tablets, and any other electronic devices prior to the performance starting. You should never speak, text, or play games on your electronic devices during a performance.  You should also not check your device during a performance since the backlight is incredibly bright and distracting to other audience members and also visible to the dancers on stage.

  • No Video or Pictures: Photography and videography are not allowed during the recital performances. Members of the audience using their phones may be asked to leave the performance. Your movements trying to get the best angle as well as the light from the device are distracting to both nearby audience members and the dancers who have worked hard for this special day. Digital downloads of the professional videography will be sent when complete from True Focus Films.  Photos with family, friends, and fellow dancers can be taken before or after the show in the lobby or outside.

  •  Applause: Most of us know that it’s tradition to give the performers a round of applause at the end of the dance! One of the most rewarding parts of recital weekend is hearing our younger dancers say “did you hear how loud they clapped for us?” as they rush off the stage for the first time. Another great way to show your support is to applaud during the impressive moments that you know your dancer has worked hard to achieve. Please refrain from yelling names throughout the performance. This can be distracting for the dancers and make them forget their routines.

  • No Backstage Access: No one is allowed backstage during the shows except for dancers, volunteers, and instructors. Dancers will be released at the end of the Show. Please rest assured that we have a number of volunteers backstage to help your dancer throughout the entire process.
